Dear Yuletide author,
Thank you so much for writing for me! I’m so excited about each of the canons that I’m requesting. I hope that you find something inspiring in my likes or prompts and enjoy the writing process. :)
I have treats turned on and they are more than welcome!

Bartimaeus - Stroud
Requested characters: Bartimaeus, Nathaniel
I am a Bart/Nat shipper and would be especially delighted to receive shipfic for them!
I’m so interested in the relationship they have. I love the canon banter, the frustration, and the various near-misses on mutual respect (until the tragic end!). I’d enjoy a canon divergence—does Nathaniel take the hint and become a cabin boy instead of defeating Lovelace in AoS? Does Nathaniel get demoted after GE, so he’s not a minister during PG? Or perhaps a romantic take on a missing scene, like the night spent in the library in AoS or the hotel in Prague during GE. Post-canon fix-it also extremely welcome!
A note on age and explicit content: I would be happy to receive smut for Bartimaeus and Nathaniel at any point in the series, as long as Nathaniel isn’t written as prepubescent—that is a DNW. Bartimaeus’ situation is a little complicated given the nature of his shapeshifting, so for him, I ask that he be wearing either an adolescent or adult human guise if they fuck, or you can write him as looking nonhuman (mythical creature, animal, gelatinous blob, whatever).
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Requested characters: Brian Johnson, John Bender
What The Breakfast Club represents to me is the opportunity to take these kids out beyond the one day of their lives that we see—to extrapolate a future for the geek (Brian) and the delinquent (John) that is a little hopeful. I ship Brian/John and would really enjoy seeing them getting together or beginning to recognize feelings of attraction.
What I love about the film is that the characters all fully embody their stereotype in addition to having unexpected depth. This gives a beautiful tension to each of them: they can’t simply escape the label they’ve been given, because it’s true, it fits, it’s just incomplete. I would love to see their personalities come into play in whatever you write. If it’s something set while they’re still in high school or shortly thereafter, maybe their struggles with internal prejudice are a point of conflict, and they lash out at each other as they attempt to maintain their new friendship or change it into something sexual/romantic. There’s a very fruitful space to explore here, and 1980s-era or Midwestern American details are very welcome.
Something set further in the future is also great. I’ll never grow tired of suggestions as to what Brian and John end up doing with their lives and how they might come back together. I love reunions, especially ill-advised reunion sex that happens partly from the shock of seeing this familiar face again. Showing the process of dealing with the fallout that comes after is a huge bonus.
I love these characters, and pretty much anything you can give me about their post-detention lives will be appreciated, as long as we get some of that same depth and unexpected tenderness that the movie provided!
In Memoriam - Winn
Requested characters: Sidney Ellwood, Henry Gaunt
The end of the novel doesn’t give us much detail about how Sidney and Henry navigate a mutual romantic attachment, in contrast to the miscommunication/mixed-signals pining of their first go round. I would love to see any part of that filled in: the separation during the second half of the war, though the risk of death is much lower; the discussions around moving; their experiences reacquainting with sex and their bodies. I would also love to see Sidney regaining his appreciation for poetry, if that’s of interest to you!
Maurice - Forster
Requested character: Clive Durham
Clive is the best, and I desperately want more of him. I really love his crisis of identity in the novel, which reads to me like extreme repression as he tries to fit the role of the heir and son that he’s been raised to be. His insistence that he’s now “normal” comes across as so hollow.
So give me a Clive still grappling with his sexuality. Perhaps he falls for another man, or even Maurice again. Or maybe we diverge before the break-up and explore Clive’s relationship with Maurice (which I am happy to read as sexual). I love crossover pairings with other characters from period-appropriate stories, if you have a favorite that you think would fit. I would be so thrilled to get another peek into Clive’s head as he explores (or represses) his sense of self.
For this request, I specifically DNW the movie canon version of Clive’s sexuality crisis, which is prompted by Risley’s trial for public indecency. I really love the nebulousness of his internal conflict about “normality” and his duty to his social station from the book.
Tokyo Babylon
Requested characters: Sakurazuka Seishirou, Sumeragi Subaru
What I love about these two is that their differences show up/feel rooted in the specific ways that they respond to real-world issues and community. I adored the social commentary in the series, and I’d love to see those relationships to people/places/things echoed in fic. I love that Subaru’s kindness comes at a high personal cost. I love that Seishirou rejects the idea of his own emotions but is really good at offering comfort and support. There’s this constant sense that if either of them could openly communicate, maybe they could really help one another—but we don’t get that in canon. So give me the canon divergence AU where some necessary realization/conversation happens earlier, or a post-canon fix-it, or something funky like a time-travel do-over.
I read Seishirou’s attachment to Subaru as possibly romantic during the year of the bet, though Seishirou is likely in deep self-denial about that. And I love that Subaru’s love declaration comes at the worst moment of his life. I’m very much attracted to the intensity of their feelings, and would prefer a fic which acknowledges their importance to one another. In other words, I ship them.
Note that I’m cool with X/1999 references, but I don’t care for the apocalypse plot and I’d prefer for that not to be a focus. I would also be happy to just ignore X and get fic set in an AU without a looming apocalypse/where the events of 1999 never occurred.
